Lorie Mills began her career in 1994 and has specialized in coding and documentation integrity with an emphasis on provider education.
Mills has served three terms as President of the MS Health Information Management Association and has been an active member of the MSHIMA Board of Directors for 13 years.
Mills has served at the American Health Information Management Association in numerous roles that include The Advocacy and Policy Committee, The House of Delegates and the Commission on Certification for Health Informatics and Information Management. Over her career, Mills has had the opportunity to be a speaker for the MS Hospital Association, MS HIM Association, TN HIM Association, and the MS Healthcare Finance Association.
Mills co-authored the article Red Flags for Myocardial Infarctions Coding and CDI published in the July 2019 Journal of AHIMA. She has worked on a project with The American College of Cardiology to develop ICD10 code I5A, non- traumatic myocardial injury, released in the October 2021 coding updates.
With 25+ years of experience Mills has worked with small critical access facilities all the way to a large 7 hospital health system with multiple specialty clinics. Mills has 3 children Olivia, Jordan and Nicholas and resides in Hattiesburg, MS.
Beginning her career in 1994, Lorie has leveraged her expertise to assist healthcare organizations with process and coding challenges, and as one president states, “has been [an] innovative, creative think[er], and has a strategic approach to the engagement.”
